Angioedema Management

  • Treat Airway obstruction: Intubation
  • Epinephrine 1: 1000 0.5 ml IM in anteriolateral thigh if anaphylaxis present. May repeat every 5 minutes.
  • If on beta blockers give glucagon 1mg IV
  • Fresh Frozen Plasma 10 ml/kg IV
  • Specific Medication options:
  1. Berinert 20 u/kg IV
  2. Ecallantide 10 mg SQ upto 3 doses
  3. Icatibant 30 mg SQ


  • If identifiable allergen:
  1. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 1mg/kg IV or IM (max 50 mg)
  2. Ranitidine 1mg/kg IV
  3. Solumedrol 250mg IV once followed by 125 mg IV q6h
