Unknown Sources of Infection:
Think of Staph Aureus, Streptococcus Pneumoniae, Gram Negative organisms
- If the patient is not allergic to Penicillin:
Vancomycin 1 gm IV q 12 h
Ceftriaxone 2 gm IV g 12h
Metronidazole 500 mg IV q6h
- If the patient is allergic to Penicillin:
Vancomycin 1 gm IV q 12h
Ciprofloxacin 400mg iv q 8h
Metronidazole 500 mg IV q 6h
Associated Sinusitis
Think of Streptococcus Pneumoniae
- If patient is not allergic to Penicillin:
Ceftriaxone
Metronidazole
- If patient is allergic to Penicillin
Vancomycin
Metronidazole
Associated Otitis / Mastoiditis
